If Funke made any great achievements with this series, it was in the character of Dustfinger.
Jacopo is the last person I would have expected to help Mo kill the Inkdaeth — which is why I love the fact that he does. I’ll even say In,death. Farid, who has given up his fire after the death of Dustfinger, works for an increasingly wealthy Orpheus.
It showed me that we shouldn’t fear the pain of it, but live for the memories, and the bittersweet feelings they carry. I could almost say that I dislike her character after reading the third book.

A fantastic end to the trilogy with a finale that left me completely content – no loose ends and remarkably realistic for a fantasy. I did not find that I enjoyed Mo as much in this one for reasons that I will not include here.
Quite a different feel from the lighthearted words-come-alive feel in the first book. Our ratings are based on child development best practices. And then proceeds to do everything in his power to ruin it. Let’s just say that the book only starts to get interesting in the last pages or so, and it’s pages long! Through the whole book, I was waiting and waiting for Mo or at least someone to kill him, but nooooo! To be fair, I feel I must touch on a few other characters before wrapping up my review.

And the love interest character never feels like a part of the integral cast. This was everything I hoped it would be and more. And the power of books and the words that lie in them.
I think the first one was my favorite one. Okay, maybe Meggie’s nice, but let’s face it; she’s always been a pretty boring, flat main character. And although this is the end of the trilogy, Funke has left enough plotlines open to continue the series, if she chooses. Men broke so much more quickly. And, he starts to feel affection towards his mother.
